These conferences will look a bit different than those we have had in the past and the students will be in the driver’s seat. The students have been working on creating a digital portfolio with work samples that demonstrate growth and mastery of our learning targets so far this year. It will be there job to explain to you how this work is evidence of their learning. They will also share with you where they would like to go next in their learning. Parents will then have an opportunity to ask the students questions about their presentation. My job will be to facilitate the meeting - not to be an information giver. For this first conference, I may involve myself a bit more in the conference as it is new to the students, parents and even myself - but by the second conference the students will be pretty much on their own.
Not all students will share the same things and the students may not cover every topic we have been learning about this year. Parents will of course still receive a copy of the report card at this conference but we may not address all of the topics on the report card. You can always ask me questions at a later time after you have had a chance to look over the report card. If you have other areas of concern, please let me know and we can schedule a second time to meet privately, or add a little time at the end of the conference to meet without the students.
Look for conference sign up sheets to be coming home sometime next week. Thank you in advance for helping to support your child in this important part of their learning journey.
