We finally finished up chapter 1 in our GoMath program and will be moving on to Chapter 2. We have begun a "Tales from the Heart" unit in literacy, where we will be reading stories and poems that are "from the heart." We will be focusing on changes in characters over time. We will also be continuing to talk about similes and metaphors. Through this unit, we will also work with non-fiction texts about the heart and cardiovascular system.
Today we began learning about a great program called GoAnimate. With this program the children can create videos of two characters involved in dialogue over some topic. These videos are private as we are using the program through GoAnimate4Schools. I created a couple of different videos for the children to view that were about similes and metaphors. Today, the children were able to just "play around" with the site, but they will be picking a topic we have learned about in school to "teach" through this dialogue format. The best way to demonstrate true understanding is to be able to teach it to others. This tool will really allow students to show what they know!! I am really excited to use this tool, however, I am currently using it through a trial version and I am not sure if we will be able to use it beyond the 14 days...time will tell. So far, the kids love it. You can get to the site here, but the students have to login in order to have access to the content on the site.
