It would be wonderful to have parents visit the blog and comment on some of the posts. The authentic feedback of a "live" audience will help to encourage thoughtful writing with real purpose. It was exciting for the students to see their blog posts up on the "big screen" today. Having people comment on their posts in a timely fashion will only increase this enthusiasm for writing!
A couple of notes...
- These are NOT edited pieces but true first thoughts by the students. I am going to teach them how to go back and edit a published post. We will fix some things but not everything, as I believe students can become overwhelmed and discouraged when they have to try and correct everything all at once. Also, we need to take into account the fact that many of the students have limited typing skills. This is a new media outlet for their writing and it will take some time to become more proficient at it.
- As this site IS public, I have asked students not to post last names or identifying information such as the school name in their posts. I would also like to follow this rule of thumb in the comments to the students.
